A little teaser for you…

Which advance in automotive engineering – had it come into widespread use sooner than it actually did – might well have completely changed the course of twentieth century history?

Answer to follow… Let’s see if someone gets there before I post it!

How about Sat Nav? It makes me change course so why not history? Maybe a battle or two could have been avoided if one or other of the armies had been sent to the wrong place!

    Very good! I like it…

Not the answer I was looking for though – which will be posted later today…

Having read your very interesting answer I maintain I was right! If they hadn’t taken that fateful wrong turn (aided by their Sat Nav) they wouldn’t have had to reverse!

Well – I can’t really argue with that – though strictly it wouldn’t just be an automotive advance – since the satellite component would require the space programme also to have happened…

    Best attempt though…

Well if you’re going to be picky….

In the dim and distant, having had to operate for some time without a reverse gear, I recall the reverse manoeuvre was managed by opening the door, sticking a leg out and shoving. I don’t suppose the Archduke and Mrs Archduke were up to that in their ermine slippers! Hence the world went to war.

Precisely! Hence the origin of the phrase ‘too posh to push…’!
